Chardonnay originates from the Burgundy wine region of eastern France and is a green grape variety. France produces around a quarter of all Chardonnay with the USA a close second. As its generally an 'easy' grape to grow, its planted in just about every wine growing country.
As a neutral grape, the wine takes much of its flavour from the terroir and the wine making process. Generally cooler climates produce more mineral flavours, whilst warmer produce more fruity flavours.
