Bertani Amarone Valpantena is a deep dark ruby wine with a violet rim. Notes of black and sour cherries, berries, spices and dried fruit. The palate is creamy with soft tannins and integrated oak. A lighter, fruitier and younger version of Bertani’s iconic Amarone Classico.
Aged in 3 styles of barrel for 24 months, and further aged in the bottle for 6 months. The aging develops some dark chocolate flavours in this Amarone, with delicate notes of spice, its velvety base, and its distinctive depth and complexity.
About
From the hills of Valpantena (which is the only "Cru" subzone in the Valpolicella region). This has been produced using the newest fermentation and drying methods to give this Amarone a new modern feel, while keeping it very authentic.
Vineyards: The vines are vertical-trellised and Guyot-trained, with a planting density of 5000 plants/ha. The Valpantena hills, north of Verona. The soils are calcareous-marl in the east and calcareous-clay in the west, rich in iron.
Winemaking: Using 80% Corvina Veronese and 20% Rondinella grapes, which are harvested by hand from wholly-owned vineyards on the hills of Valpantena cru of Valpolicella . The drying process is long and traditional to increase concentration of fruit flavour. This is followed by fermentation in stainless steel vats at high controlled temperature to extract fruit and richness. The wine is aged for 2-3 years in small oak barrels to preserve fruit intensity.
