Bodegas Fabre Phebus Malbec is a rich, generously fruited Argentine red from Mendoza, offering ripe black cherry, dark berries and hints of liquorice and spice. Full-flavoured and satisfying, it combines the generous fruit character for which Argentine Malbec is loved with enough structure to make it an excellent partner for food.
Created by Hervé Joyaux Fabre, a French winemaker who recognised the potential of Mendoza's Malbec vineyards, Phebus reflects his emphasis on fruit, balance and elegance. An inviting choice for anyone who enjoys a substantial, fruit-driven red, particularly alongside grilled steak, roast lamb or other hearty dishes.
Nose: Fresh black cherry and dark berry aromas, accompanied by liquorice and a gentle suggestion of spice.
Palate: Rich and full-flavoured, with ripe black cherry, plum and mixed red and dark fruits. Liquorice and spice add depth, while the wine's structure provides balance to its generous fruit character.
Finish: Fruity and gently spicy, with lingering dark berry and liquorice notes and a satisfying sense of structure.
Bodegas Fabre Phebus Malbec comes from Mendoza, Argentina's best-known wine-producing region. The area's sunny growing conditions help Malbec develop the ripe, generous fruit flavours that make the variety so popular, while the producer's emphasis on balance ensures that richness is supported by structure.
The wine is made entirely from Malbec grapes. Following harvest, the grapes undergo a short period of cold maceration before fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. This initial contact with the skins helps develop colour, aroma and fruit character, while careful temperature management supports the wine's fresh black cherry and berry notes.
Winemaker Hervé Joyaux Fabre brings a Bordeaux-influenced approach to Argentine Malbec, seeking to combine the grape's natural generosity with elegance and balance. The result is a substantial, fruit-driven wine with liquorice, spice and enough structure to complement a wide range of hearty dishes.
Phebus Malbec is a natural partner for grilled steak, roast beef and lamb. Its generous fruit complements the richness of red meat, while its structure makes it particularly satisfying alongside barbecued dishes.
It also works well with game, beef casseroles and mushroom risotto. For a vegetarian option, try it with roasted mushrooms, grilled aubergine or a hearty vegetable risotto, where its dark fruit and savoury spice can complement the earthy flavours.
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Allowing the wine a little time in the glass will help its fruit and spice aromas develop.
