Esporão Reserva Organic White is a distinctive Portuguese white wine from DOC Alentejo, produced at Herdade do Esporão, one of the region's most established and respected wine estates.
First produced in 1985, Esporão Reserva has become an important expression of the estate's commitment to combining traditional Portuguese grape varieties with thoughtful, modern winemaking. The wine is produced entirely from estate-grown grapes cultivated in certified organic vineyards.
A blend of Antão Vaz, Arinto and Roupeiro brings together complementary characteristics. Antão Vaz contributes richness and ripe fruit, Arinto provides freshness and acidity, while Roupeiro adds aromatic complexity and delicate floral notes.
Partial oak fermentation and extended lees ageing create a broad, creamy texture and subtle spice, but the wine retains the freshness needed to balance its generous character.
It is particularly appealing to customers who enjoy richer, more complex white wines and are interested in discovering the distinctive qualities of Portugal's indigenous grape varieties.
Winemaking: The grapes are destemmed and undergo carefully controlled skin contact before pressing and clarification. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, predominantly in stainless steel tanks, with a smaller proportion fermented in French and American oak barrels. The wine then matures for approximately six months on its fine lees, in stainless steel and oak, developing additional texture, complexity and gentle spice while preserving the freshness of the fruit.
Vineyards: The grapes are grown in certified organic vineyards at Herdade do Esporão in Alentejo, southern Portugal. The estate's vineyards feature a mixture of granite and schist-derived soils with a clay-loam structure. The region's warm Mediterranean-continental climate encourages ripe, concentrated fruit, while careful vineyard management and the complementary characteristics of the traditional grape varieties help maintain freshness and balance.
