Help Me Choose a Puglia Red Wine

You don't need to know the grapes or wine terminology. Start with the description that sounds most like the kind of red you'd enjoy, and we'll narrow the range down from there.

I Want Something Smooth, Ripe & Easy to Enjoy

If you enjoy generous fruit, softer tannins and reds that are immediately approachable, start here.

San Marzano Il Pumo Primitivo is the choice for smooth, ripe and generous fruit in a straightforward expression of Puglia's best-known red grape.

San Marzano Il Pumo Negroamaro keeps the easy-drinking character but brings more savoury and herbal character alongside its dark fruit.

Terre Allegre Sangiovese takes a softer, fresher direction, with ripe red fruit and gentle tannins rather than the richer character of the first two.

I Want Something Richer & More Substantial

If you like Puglia's generous fruit but want greater depth, maturity or structure, these wines take things a step further.

San Marzano Talo Primitivo di Manduria adds richness, polish and oak-aged depth while retaining Primitivo's smooth, immediately appealing character.

Brunilde di Menzione Primitivo di Manduria Riserva moves towards a more mature style, with additional oak influence, structure and developed Riserva character.

San Marzano Collezione 50 Cinquanta is the choice when you want richness accompanied by greater savoury complexity, spice and structure rather than simply a richer Primitivo.

I Want Something Fresh, Lively & More Defined

Puglia doesn't have to mean a big, heavy red. These wines retain plenty of flavour while putting greater emphasis on freshness, definition and energy.

Botromagno Primitivo keeps Primitivo's ripe fruit but gives it a fresher, more fragrant and defined expression.

Produttori di Manduria Acid Crab Negroamaro combines juicy dark fruit with savoury herbs, liquorice and pepper in a fresh, unoaked style.

San Marzano Susco Susumaniello is the most elegant direction, combining lively freshness with floral character, fine tannins and measured structure.

I Prefer Structure & Savoury Character

If grip, spice and savoury complexity appeal more than simple softness, there are two particularly good directions to explore.

Botromagno Nero di Troia is the fresher and firmer choice, combining dark fruit with savoury character and noticeable tannic definition.

San Marzano F Negroamaro is richer and deeper, with concentrated dark fruit, spice and the additional complexity and structure of extended oak ageing.

I'm Looking for Something Really Special

Our premium Puglia reds aren't arranged as good, better and best. They offer three quite different reasons to choose a special bottle.

San Marzano Anniversario 62 Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is the luxurious choice: generous black cherry and plum, richness, polish and a long velvety finish.

Produttori di Manduria Elegia Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is about mature, layered complexity, bringing ripe fruit together with balsamic spice and developed savoury character.

Produttori di Manduria Sonetto Primitivo di Manduria Riserva takes the powerful, structured route, with old-vine concentration, mature oak and serious complexity.

I'd Like to Try Something a Bit Different

If you'd like to explore beyond Puglia's more familiar reds, San Marzano Talo Malvasia Nera is made from a less familiar local grape, giving you a smooth, generous red with its own distinctive character.

Or try Boccantino Primitivo Susumaniello, where ripe, generous Primitivo is blended with Susumaniello for a livelier, fresher take on the rich Puglian red style.
