Tasting Notes
This is a sumptuous Pinot Grigio with grapefruit and peach aromas and a delicious palate packed with melon, apple and white peach flavours, backed up by a crisp, lemony acidity.
About
Calusari Pinot Grigio is the success story of Englishman, Philip Cox and his wife Elvira who transformed this vineyard from its dilapidated state to a modern winery. Replanting some 700 hectares of vines, the vineyards are now immaculate as is the winery which has been fitted with modern wine making equipment, from the gentle crusher to the temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for fermenting the wines. With 20 million euros invested and the help of experienced New World winemakers, they are producing top class red, white and rose wines.
The grapes for Calusari Pinot Grigio are harvested at night when it is cooler. This minimises any damage/bruising to the grapes since they are firmer. Careful destemming and gentle crushing then follow before fermenting in stainless steel tanks which are kept at between 10 and 15 degrees celsius.
Ideal with...
Seafood and chicken dishes work well. Because it is slightly more full-bodied than some Pinot Grigios, it will also complement fish sauces and even mildly spiced Asian food.
