Merchant Tip: I've enjoyed this Malbec on numerous occasions, and what keeps bringing me back is its combination of generous fruit, smooth texture and beautifully integrated oak character. It's richer and more layered than Séptima Emblema, with the vanilla and spice adding complexity without overwhelming the fruit. A particularly good choice if you enjoy a rounded, oak-influenced Argentine Malbec.
Nose: Generous aromas of blackberry, ripe plum and dark cherry, accompanied by vanilla, toasted oak and hints of sweet spice.
Palate: Rich and full-flavoured, with concentrated dark fruit, layers of vanilla and gentle oak spice. Smooth, rounded tannins create a silky texture, while balanced acidity keeps the generous fruit from becoming heavy.
Finish: Smooth, satisfying and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, vanilla and subtle toasted spice.
Séptima Obra Malbec is produced from selected vineyards in Mendoza, combining fruit from Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. The different growing conditions contribute complementary characteristics: generous ripe fruit and roundness alongside freshness and structure.
Careful grape selection and controlled fermentation help develop the wine's concentrated plum, blackberry and cherry flavours while preserving the natural acidity that provides balance.
Following fermentation, the wine spends approximately ten months maturing in previously used French and American oak barrels. This extended oak contact contributes vanilla, toasted notes and gentle spice, while helping the tannins develop a smoother, more integrated texture. The result is a richer, more layered Malbec in which the oak complements rather than dominates the fruit.
Séptima Obra is particularly enjoyable with grilled or roasted red meats. Its generous fruit and rounded tannins make it an excellent partner for ribeye steak, roast beef, lamb and slow-cooked beef dishes.
The wine's oak-derived spice also complements barbecued meats, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses. Try it with a rich beef casserole or grilled steak with peppercorn sauce, where its smooth texture and layered flavours work particularly well.
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Giving the wine a little time in the glass will help its fruit and oak aromas open up.
