Guillaume Gonnet Bel Ami pours a deep ruby-garnet colour with subtle purple highlights. The nose opens with lush aromas of cherries, blackberries and cassis, intertwined with hints of garrigue, liquorice and warm spice. On the palate this Rhone red wine is medium to full bodied and beautifully balanced, offering concentrated fruit layered over fine oak and gentle savoury complexity.
Vibrant acidity gives the wine freshness and clarity, while the tannins are smooth, polished and elegantly structured, supporting the wine’s depth without heaviness. The mouth-feel is rich yet flowing, leading into a long, luxurious finish echoing dark fruit, peppery spice and Mediterranean herb. Guillaume Gonnet Bel Ami is an exceptional choice for lovers of premium Châteauneuf du Pape who value both power and finesse.
About
Guillaume Gonnet is a dynamic, modern minded winemaker in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation who blends traditional Southern Rhône variety viticulture with a commitment to terroir driven expression. Bel Ami reflects his vision of crafting Rhône red wines of true character, combining old-vine fruit, minimal intervention and thoughtful ageing.
Vineyards: The grapes for Bel Ami are sourced from ancient vines planted between 50 and 90 years old on the renowned “Croix du Bois” and surrounding lieux dits in Châteauneuf du Pape. The terroir is classic: round pebbles (galets) at the surface, with sand, clay and limestone beneath. The vines are hand harvested, planted at high density, and face southeast to optimise ripeness and balance.
Winemaking: Bel Ami is made from a blend of approximately 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% Cinsault. Fermentation and maceration take place for 20 to 30 days using a mix of concrete vats, stainless steel tanks and wooden vats. Approximately 30% of the wine is aged in pyramid shaped concrete vats, 30% in wooden vats, 30% in stainless steel, and 10% in demi muids (600L barrels). Minimal new oak is used, preserving pure fruit expression. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}
