Cune Rioja Ecológico Organic is a fresh, fruit-led Rioja made from organically grown Garnacha, Tempranillo and Graciano. Garnacha leads the blend, bringing generous black and red fruit, while floral notes, silky tannins and lively freshness give the wine an immediately approachable character.
Six months in oak adds volume, gentle spice and complexity without taking attention away from the fruit. Certified organic and made using spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, it's an excellent choice when you want an organic Rioja that remains juicy, smooth and easy to enjoy rather than being defined by extended ageing.
Cune Rioja Ecológico Organic offers a particularly fresh, fruit-led expression of Rioja. Garnacha makes up the majority of the blend, supported by Tempranillo and Graciano, giving the wine generous black and red fruit, floral character and silky tannins rather than making oak and maturation its dominant features.
Six months in barrel adds just enough volume, spice and complexity to give the wine extra depth while retaining its youthful fruit and freshness. Its certified organic production provides another clear reason to choose it without becoming the only thing that defines the wine.
Merchant's Tip
Don't choose this simply because it's organic. Choose it if you want a fresh, juicy Rioja with soft tannins and much less emphasis on oak and ageing than you'd find in a traditional Crianza or Reserva. The organic certification is a genuine additional reason to buy it, but the fruit-led style is what makes it enjoyable in the glass.
Nose
Expressive blackberries and blueberries with ripe red fruit, floral notes and a subtle touch of spice.
Palate
Smooth, rounded and fruit-led, with juicy black and red fruit supported by silky tannins and enough acidity to keep the wine fresh and lively. Gentle oak adds volume and complexity without obscuring the fruit.
Finish
Fresh, fruity and persistent, with soft tannins, gentle spice and a lively final lift.
Choose this if you want an organic Rioja but don't want the certification to be the only reason for buying the bottle. Its Garnacha-led blend gives it plenty of ripe fruit and an approachable texture, while relatively short oak ageing provides Rioja character without moving the wine towards the more mature flavours of Crianza or Reserva.
It's also a good choice if your idea of enjoyable Rioja is fresh fruit, soft tannins and easy drinking rather than pronounced vanilla, developed flavours or extended maturation. If you're unsure which direction suits you, our Rioja Wine Guide will help you explore the broader styles available.
Garnacha accounts for 60% of the blend, with 30% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano. That unusually Garnacha-led composition helps explain the wine's generous fruit and immediately approachable character, while Tempranillo and Graciano contribute additional structure, freshness and complexity.
The grapes come from organically cultivated vineyards around Haro and San Vicente, predominantly on chalky-clay soils. Organic and plant-based fertilisers are used, while synthetic herbicides and pesticides are avoided as part of the certified organic approach to viticulture.
Each grape variety is harvested and vinified separately, with spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and limited use of additives. After malolactic fermentation, the wine spends six months in 300-litre oak barrels. This relatively short maturation adds volume and complexity while deliberately allowing the fruit and freshness of the blend to remain clearly visible.
The combination of ripe fruit, freshness and soft tannins makes this an easy wine to match with food. Try it with Mediterranean dishes, pasta, rice, charcuterie, grilled vegetables, pork, chicken, lighter meat dishes or a wide range of cheeses.
Serve at around 16–17°C. There's no need for extended decanting, although a generous glass will allow its fruit and floral character to open naturally.

Cune Ecológico has a useful role in our Rioja range because it answers two different customer needs without having to force either one. For someone specifically looking for organic wine, the certification provides the obvious route into the bottle. For everyone else, it's simply a fresh, smooth and fruit-led Rioja that happens to be organically produced.
Its Garnacha-led blend also gives it a different character from the many Tempranillo-dominated Riojas around it. Rather than relying on extended maturation for complexity, it lets ripe fruit, freshness and gentle oak do the work.
