Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of purple and deep red in the glass with an aroma of ripe red and black fruit, showing strawberry, black plum, and blueberry.
To taste, the fruity flavours mingle with toast, leather and tobacco, followed by creamy notes of dulce de leche and toffee.
The palate has a long and elegant finish with pleasant levels of tannins and a balanced structure.
About
The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from Montes' own vineyards in the Colchagua Valley, the sites are irrigated via a 'Sustainable Dry Farmed' system saving 2/3 on irrigation.
In Apalta cool ocean breezes and low night-time temperatures help to moderate this warm area, allowing for slow ripening, while planting on slopes creates the exposure to produce richly ripened fruit tastes.
The grapes are cold soaked for five days to extract aroma and colour followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks for up to 10 days and were then kept on the skins to impart structure and colour.
The wine is then aged in French Oak, a third in new, the remainder split between second and third use oak. The aging takes place for 12 months before final blending and bottling.
