Wines of Chile

Chilean wines are classed as 'new world' wines, and since 2005 have become popular for producing not only great quality wines, but also great value wines. They are currently the worlds 5th largest exporter.

Chile began wine making in the 16th century when the Spanish colonized the country and widened its vineyard base in the 19th centaury when the French brought new grape varieties across.

In the 1980's the industry was modernised, with some dubious quality wines being produced. By 2005 these issues were eradicated and Chilean wines are now recognised as great value for money wines.
