Montes Classic Series Malbec comes from the Colchagua Valley in central Chile, where the producer draws on vineyards in Apalta and Marchigüe. These two areas offer contrasting growing conditions that help create a wine with generous fruit, freshness and balance.
Apalta has a Mediterranean climate with warm days and cooler nights, encouraging ripeness while helping preserve acidity. Its soils are influenced by granite, river deposits and varying amounts of clay. Marchigüe, closer to the Coastal Mountains, experiences greater wind exposure and generally drier conditions, with shallower, stonier soils.
The grapes are carefully selected before fermentation in stainless-steel tanks. Controlled extraction develops the wine's colour, fruit flavours and tannin structure, while malolactic fermentation helps soften its texture.
A proportion of the wine is matured in French-oak barrels, introducing gentle vanilla and spice without overwhelming the fruit. This combination of ripe Colchagua Malbec and measured oak influence creates a smooth, balanced wine with an appealingly silky finish.
Montes Classic Series Malbec is particularly enjoyable with grilled steak, roast beef, burgers and slow-cooked lamb. Its ripe fruit and gentle oak spice also complement spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne and richly flavoured mushroom dishes.
