San Marzano Talò Primitivo is the bottle we recommend when someone wants to move beyond an everyday Primitivo without stepping all the way up to a special-occasion wine. Ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum are joined by cocoa, vanilla and gentle sweet spice, creating a rich, smooth red with velvety tannins and carefully judged oak.
What makes Talò particularly appealing is its balance. It has greater depth and polish than a simple fruit-led Primitivo, but remains approachable enough for relaxed meals and regular enjoyment. For customers looking for a premium Italian red that still represents excellent value, it is one of the easiest recommendations we make.
Merchant's Tip
If Anniversario 62 is the San Marzano Primitivo we recommend for landmark occasions, Talò is the bottle we reach for when someone wants something special enough to impress but versatile enough to enjoy regularly. It consistently delivers more richness, balance and polish than customers expect at this price.
Appearance: Deep ruby red with youthful violet highlights and excellent colour concentration.
Nose: Generous aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum are layered with cocoa, vanilla and delicate sweet spice.
Palate: Full-bodied, smooth and beautifully balanced, with ripe dark fruit supported by dark chocolate, vanilla and gentle oak. Velvety tannins provide structure, while fresh acidity prevents the wine from feeling heavy.
Finish: Long, soft and satisfying, with lingering black fruit, cocoa and subtle sweet spice.
Choose Talò if you enjoy smooth, fruit-driven reds with generous body, ripe dark fruit and a polished finish. It should feel immediately familiar if you normally enjoy Malbec, rich Merlot or smooth New World Shiraz.
It is particularly well suited to customers who want more concentration and oak influence than an entry-level Primitivo, but still value softness, balance and immediate drinkability.
If your preference is for lighter-bodied reds, firm tannins, pronounced acidity or strongly savoury flavours, another style may suit you better.
Primitivo naturally develops ripe cherry, blackberry and plum flavours in Puglia's warm Mediterranean climate. The fruit for Talò comes from vineyards in southern Puglia, where sunshine encourages full ripening while cooling coastal influences help preserve the freshness needed to balance the wine's richness.
After temperature-controlled fermentation and around ten days of skin contact, the wine is matured for approximately six months in French and American oak. The barrels contribute cocoa, vanilla and sweet spice, but are used with enough restraint to keep Primitivo's generous fruit at the centre of the wine.
This combination of ripe fruit, gentle extraction and measured oak ageing gives Talò greater depth and polish than a simple unoaked Primitivo without sacrificing the approachable style for which San Marzano is known.

Talò works particularly well with grilled steak, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef, rich pasta dishes, barbecued meats, charcuterie and mature hard cheeses.
Serve at around 16–18°C. It is enjoyable as soon as it is opened, although allowing it to breathe for 15–30 minutes will reveal more of its dark fruit, cocoa and sweet spice.
