More about Cantine San Marzano

In the heart of Italy's Puglia region, nestled between the shimmering Adriatic and Ionian Seas, lies the picturesque town of San Marzano. It is here, over half a century ago, that a group of visionary winegrowers laid the foundation for one of the most influential wineries in Italy - Cantine San Marzano.

The year was 1962 when 19 winegrowers in the centre of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP region came together to establish Cantine San Marzano. Their shared dream - to elevate the reputation of the Primitivo grape and the wines of Puglia on the global stage.

In 1982, a pivotal moment in San Marzano's history occurred when Francesco Cavallo was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors. Cavallo would go on to lead the winery for the next four decades, guiding it through a period of unprecedented growth and transformation.

The mid-1990s marked a significant milestone in San Marzano's history, as the winery's dedication and hard work culminated in the release of its first bottled wines.

San Marzano wines highlight their winemaking philosophy of honouring the legacy of the Primitivo grape and the rich viticultural heritage of Puglia. This has enables the winery to be able to craft wines that resonate with a global audience.

At the heart of San Marzano's success lies a deep-rooted spirit of cooperation and collective endeavour. From the winery's founding in 1962, when 19 winegrowers banded together to pursue their shared dream, to the present day, where the winery continues to thrive as a cooperative enterprise, this collaborative ethos has been the driving force behind its remarkable achievements.
