Tasting Notes
Cherries, plums and savoury spices combine to give a warm, full-bodied and generous wine with a surprisingly fresh finish.
About
Awarded the Cooperative Winery of the Year Award in 2021 by Gambero Rosso, San Marzano was actually established in 1962 when 19 farmers, growers and wine-makers pooled their resources to create 'Cantine San Marzano. Today, there are more than 1,200 growers contributing to the plethora of fine and everyday wines in their portfolio.
As well as being a small town in the south of Puglia, Salice Salentino is the name given to one of the oldest wines from this region. In 1976, its importance was recognised when it was awarded Italy's DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) wine classification. San Marzano's 'Il Pumo' Salice Salentino is a blend of 85% Negroamaro and 15% Malvasia Nera.
