Maturana Blanca is a green skinned grape variety that is grown exclusively in the Rioja regions of Spain. Its history dates back to 1622, making it the oldest recorded grape variety in Rioja.
Currently there are less than 30 hectares of this variety planted in Rioja, making it one of the lesser known wines of the area. In general it is usually blended with other grape varieties, lending the resultant wine alcoholic strength, a fuller body, and a longer finish.
Maturana Blanca wines are a pale yellow-green colour, with fruity aromas of apples, bananas and citrus fruits, and gentle herbal notes. On the palate it is a light, well balanced wine, full flavoured, very smooth and dry with a gently citrus medium length finish.
