Condition
Very good with levels at top shoulder, some nicks to the cellar-aged labels (though all details are clearly legible) and capsules in good condition.
About
One of the best known 'appelations' in Bordeaux (and a very attractive village), Pauillac encompases great names such as Chateau Latour, Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothshild. These great wines are made just a stone's throw from Chateau Grand Puy Ducasse whose vineyards border those of Lafite and Mouton.
The estate was acquired in the 17th century by Arnaud Ducasse and the current company, Grand-Puy Ducasse was founded in 1932. in the 1970's, new shareholders were introduced and the estate was restructured and enlarged after a relatively dormant period. With an average age of 25 years, the vines are spread across 40 hectares and consist of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Hand-picked, sorted and destalked, the wine is vinified for 18 - 24 months in French oak barrels with an annual production of 100,000 - 120,000 bottles.
Our Views
Grand Puy Ducasse has always represented great value for money. It often outranks wines from higher classifications, with Robert Parker frequently awarding 90+ points for different vintages.
