Very good with the level at high shoulder and very good label for the age of the wine (as shown).
About
The Moze-Berthon vineyards have been in the family since 1820 and today Patrick Moze-Berthon manages the Montagne and Pomerol estates accompanied by his oldest son Mickael who is the 7th Generation of family winemakers. The family acquired Château Gouprie, which is near the small village of Maillet in Pomerol. The estate is comprises 10 acres and has a "terroir" of gravel and clay. The vineyard has a typical Pomerol planting of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc grapes.
Pomerol enjoys some of the best growing conditions in the world for top wines with two of the most iconic (and expensive) wines Château Petrus and Château Le Pin from here. Indeed, were this a Château Petrus 1949, you would expect to pay over ten times the price of this rare Château Gouprie with no guarantee that is would be any better! Add to this the fact Château Gouprie 1949 is rarer that Petrus with this quite possibly being the last bottle of the 1949 vintage available.
Our Views
This is and extremely rare bottle of 1949 Pomerol. For a collector, it would be a unique addition and as a special gift to mark an anniversary or birthday, it is exceptional.
