About
Beaune is one of the best known appellations in Burgundy and gets its name from the town of Beaune, a beautiful medieval place and one which should be on every wine-lover's itinerary. The names given to the Premier Cru wines, in this case 'Clos des Feves' are actually small areas or parcels of land known as 'Lieu Dits' or 'Climats' with exceptional growing conditions and, for some, their own micro-climates. the red wines from this region are all made with the Pinot Noir grape variety.
Chanson Pere et Fils is now known as Domaine Chanson and was founded by Simon Verry in 1750. They are one of the great names in Burgundy with around 45 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru Vineyards. Unlike some of their counterparts, their estate is less opulent with spare funds usually invested back into the winery and vineyards.
Our Views
Clos des Feves is now classified as a Premier Cru Beaune, an indicator of the quality of the wines produced. 1976 was a good vintage across Burgundy with the Cote de Beaune rated 5 star by wine critic, Michael Broadbent and described as one of the best two vintages of the decade. PLUS, grab a bargain - this last bottle is missing the vintage slip and is massively reduced in price!
