Condition
For its age, this bottle is in astonishingly good condition with level at the base of the neck. The label is showing signs of its age, though again, for a 1945 vintage wine, it's in really good condition.
About
Nuits Saint Georges is a top 'appellation' in Burgundy, named after the village and commune from which it comes. The Appellation or AOC as it's know (Appellation d'Origine Controlee) is like a kite mark for produce in France to indicate that that area (and product) has been approved. The AOC system is used widely in for wine producing areas, though is also applied to other products - the is even an AOC for a type of chicken from the Bresse area. As a red Burgundy, Nuits Saint Georges is made from the Pinot Noir grape. Pinot Noir is one of the most difficult wines to make as the quality of the wine is much more dependent upon the weather, terroir and skills of the winemaker, than other grape varieties. However, when it is well made, it is sublime and has enormous ageing potential, with the top names, such a Domaine de la Romanee Conti (DRC) and Armand Rousseau selling for jaw-dropping prices. Our Views
