About
Most people think of Chenin Blanc as a South African variety. It originates however, from the Loire in France where it is called Pineau de la Loire, Pineau Blanc and a number of other names. One of the first grape varieties to have been taken to the New World, it is thought to have been planted in South Africa as far back as 1655 though it is unclear whether it was taken to South Africa by the Dutch or French. Because of it's high acidity, Chenin Blanc is very versatile and can be used for single variety or blended dry wines, sparkling wines and, if left to overipen, for luscious dessert wines. It also lends itself well to ageing in barrel, the characteristics being similar to oak aged Chardonnays, though sometimes with more rich tropical fruit characteristics.
Made exclusively for the UK market, Hazy View is made from selected juice which is vinified in stainless steel tanks (with no oak ageing) prior to bottling.
