Typical pale straw colour, this classy Sauvignon Blanc has the sort of minerality you would associate with good Loire Sauvignons such as Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. This minerality sits perfectly with concentrated citrus fruits and very well-balanced acidity. A serious mouthful with a long finish, this is a refined, well-made wine with real class.
About
Dan Odjfell set up his winery some 25 years ago in a corner of the Maipo Valley which he fell in love with. A Norwegian shipping magnate, he took a different approach to winemaking in Chile, seeking out older vines from which to produce his selection of wines, which also include Syrah, Carignan, Malbec and Carmenere. This has proved to be a winning approach resulting in more complex wines than from younger vines and with other wineries now following suit.
Sauvignon Blanc needs a cooler climate than other varieties, hence many New World sauvignon vineyards are planted near to the coast. Odjfell is no exception in that the vines enjoy a milder climate thanks to cool breezes from the Pacific coastline. Well drained, less fertile terrain results in higher quality (and usually smaller) grapes which make for more concentrated and complex wines. Relying primarily on gravity for the filtration, the juice is purer and less agitated, preserving the intrinsic characteristics of this popular grape variety.

An absolute winner with shellfish (especially oysters and other molluscs), Odjfell Sauvignon is also fine on its own.
