Tasting Notes
Being a blend of Semillon (36%), Muscat (20%), Gewurtztraminer (20%), Pinot Gris (20%) and Chardonnay (4%), it is not surprising to find that the Lehmann Layers White provides a multi-dimensional experience, both on the nose and the pallet. Hence the name! With aromatic and floral characteristics from the Muscat and Gewurtztraminer, the Semillon, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay add structure and depth. Unique.
About
Winemaker Andrew Wigan has stuck his neck out by deciding to blend five white grape varieties that you may not normally expect to see together. As a long-established producer based in the Barossa Valley region of Southern Australia, Peter Lehmann are known for quality and innovation. Having achieved enormous success wines like Stonewell Shiraz (which we consider to be the greatest Shiraz to come from Australia) and with varieties such as Semillon, they are not afraid to buck the trends. The Layers White is an example of just what can be achieved with a little flair and imagination and of course, a highly talented wine-maker.
Ideal with...
The Layers White would make a good match with a wide variety of lighter vegetable and fresh fish dishes as well as richer, sauce-based fish dishes and even lightly spiced food. Also drinks very well chilled on its own or as an aperitif.
