Siesta Cabernet Sauvignon Tahuantinsuyu

Cabernet Sauvignon Tahuantinsuyu

£17.50

Size: 75cl

Optn: 2017 Red

Siesta en el Tahuantinsuyu Cabernet Sauvignon is a distinctive organic and biodynamic expression of Cabernet from Mendoza's Uco Valley. Dark berries and plum meet peppery spice and savoury complexity, with refreshing acidity and firm, structured tannins giving the ripe fruit impressive definition.

Made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Vista Flores, this is particularly appealing for someone looking beyond the softer, fruitier stereotype of Argentine red wine. The high-altitude setting and biodynamic approach produce a Cabernet with intensity and depth, but also freshness, structure and a distinctly savoury personality that makes it equally interesting at the table or after further bottle ageing.

About

Siesta en el Tahuantinsuyu is part of Ernesto Catena's family of Argentine wines. Catena established the project with a strong emphasis on the relationship between vineyard, landscape and wine, adopting organic and biodynamic viticulture in the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza's Uco Valley.

This wine is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon and offers a particularly distinctive alternative to Argentina's better-known Malbec. Ripe dark fruit provides generosity, but refreshing acidity, firm tannins and peppery, savoury flavours give the wine considerable structure and definition. It is a particularly good choice for someone wanting an Argentine red with both richness and a more serious Cabernet character.

Winemaking: The Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from organically and biodynamically farmed fruit. Oak maturation adds complexity and spice while allowing the wine's dark fruit, freshness and firm Cabernet structure to remain central to its character.

Vineyards: The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Vista Flores in Mendoza's Uco Valley. This high-altitude Andean environment combines sunny days with considerably cooler nights, helping the grapes achieve full flavour while retaining the acidity and freshness that give the finished wine its balance and structure.

Food Pairing: Particularly well suited to red meat and richly flavoured dishes. Try it with grilled steak, roast or slow-cooked beef, lamb, venison or hearty casseroles. Its firm structure and savoury character also make it an excellent partner for mature hard cheeses.
