About

Lunadoro Rosso di Montepulciano DOC comes from the historic wine-producing area surrounding Montepulciano in southern Tuscany. The region is renowned for its Sangiovese-based red wines, particularly the prestigious Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Rosso di Montepulciano offers a more approachable expression of the region's traditional winemaking. Generally intended to be enjoyed younger than Vino Nobile, these wines emphasise fresh fruit, balanced acidity and supple tannins rather than extended maturation and powerful structure.

Lunadoro captures this appealing character, producing a red that combines the distinctive cherry fruit and gentle savoury notes of Tuscan Sangiovese with a soft, accessible texture. It is particularly well suited to customers who enjoy traditional Italian reds but prefer something less demanding than a mature or heavily structured wine.

Winemaking: Made predominantly from Sangiovese grapes, locally known as Prugnolo Gentile, using traditional red winemaking techniques. Fermentation extracts colour, fruit character and gentle tannins, while relatively short maturation helps preserve the wine's freshness and approachable style.

Vineyards: The grapes are grown in the rolling hills surrounding Montepulciano in southern Tuscany. The area's clay and limestone soils, combined with warm Mediterranean sunshine and cooler evenings, encourage balanced ripening while helping the grapes retain the natural acidity characteristic of Sangiovese.

Food Pairing

An excellent companion to classic Italian cooking, particularly tomato-based pasta dishes, lasagne, pizza and grilled meats. Its fresh acidity works beautifully with rich tomato sauces, while the gentle tannins complement roast chicken, pork and traditional Tuscan sausages. Also enjoyable with mushroom dishes and medium-matured cheeses.
