Castello di Meleto is a historic estate in Gaiole in Chianti in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, dedicated to producing top tier Tuscan red wines. The Gran Selezione DOCG level reflects the estate’s commitment to exceptional Sangiovese from its best vineyards, rigorous selection, and extended ageing for depth and finesse.
Vineyards: The grapes for Castello di Meleto Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG are sourced exclusively from Sangiovese vines grown on select parcels (including Casi, San Piero and Poggiarso) in Gaiole in Chianti. Farming is extremely precise with attention to shoot-selection, canopy management and hand harvesting in small crates. The chosen plots yield intensely flavoured berries ideal for age worthy Tuscan red wine.
Winemaking: This Gran Selezione wine is made from 100% Sangiovese and undergoes small lot fermentation followed by maceration and maturation in large casks (50 hl and 30 hl) for 27 months, plus a minimum of 6 months in bottle before release. The result is a deeply layered, elegantly aged Tuscan red wine with refined structure, polished tannins and expressive complexity.
