deAlto Aurkitu Garnacha Viñas Viejas captures everything that makes old-vine Garnacha so appealing without becoming overly rich or heavy. Wild raspberry and red cherry provide generous, juicy fruit, joined by warm spice and subtle savoury notes. Silky tannins and a lovely underlying freshness give the wine energy, balance and an immediately inviting character.

The old vineyards lie around Leaché and Aibar in Navarra's remote Baja Montaña, where later ripening helps preserve freshness and vitality. Hand harvesting, wild fermentation and restrained use of older French oak allow those vineyards to do the talking – a characterful Spanish red that combines Garnacha's natural generosity with impressive precision.

About

deAlto is a Spanish wine project built around discovering distinctive vineyards and producing wines that emphasise fruit quality, regional character and low-intervention winemaking. Aurkitu means “to find” or “to discover” in Basque, an appropriate name for a range inspired by the remote vineyards of Navarra's Baja Montaña and their remarkable old Garnacha vines.

Winemaking: The grapes are hand picked and fermented using selected wild yeasts, with some whole bunches retained during fermentation. Extraction is deliberately gentle to preserve Garnacha's bright fruit and aromatic character. After fermentation, around half of the wine spends approximately 12 months in French oak, with very little new oak, adding texture and spice without masking the freshness of the fruit.

Vineyards: The fruit comes from old vineyards surrounding the villages of Leaché and Aibar in the eastern reaches of Navarra, close to the border with Aragón. The vineyards include both traditional bush vines and trellised vines. At elevations reaching around 500–625 metres, the relatively cool conditions and later ripening season help balance Garnacha's natural generosity with freshness and vitality.

Food Pairing

Excellent with roast lamb, grilled pork, duck and game, as well as chorizo and other Spanish charcuterie. Its combination of juicy fruit, spice and freshness also makes it a great partner for barbecued meats and chargrilled vegetables.
