Manos Negras Stone Soil Select Malbec is a full-bodied Argentine red from carefully selected, limestone-rich stony vineyards in Paraje Altamira. Ripe plum and dark fruit flavours meet subtle herbal complexity, while silky tannins and lively acidity bring balance to its substantial palate. This is a Malbec with genuine presence, offering richness and structure without sacrificing freshness.
Created by acclaimed viticulturist Alejandro Sejanovich, Stone Soil Select places vineyard character at the heart of the wine. Natural-yeast fermentation and French-oak maturation contribute complexity and texture, while the fruit retains its distinctive identity. An appealing choice for anyone seeking a substantial, sophisticated Malbec with a sense of place.
Nose: Ripe plum and dark berry aromas, accompanied by hints of fig, herbs and subtle oak spice.
Palate: Full-bodied and substantial, with ripe plum, dark fruit and gentle herbal notes. Silky tannins provide a smooth but structured texture, while lively acidity brings freshness and definition to the generous palate.
Finish: Long and structured, with lingering dark fruit, delicate spice and refreshing acidity.
Stone Soil Select comes from carefully chosen vineyard plots in Paraje Altamira, one of the Uco Valley's distinctive high-altitude growing areas. At approximately 1,200 metres above sea level, the vineyards experience sunny days and cooler nights, helping the grapes develop ripe fruit flavours while retaining freshness.
The selected plots contain abundant stones, many coated with calcium carbonate. These rocky, relatively low-fertility soils influence vine growth and contribute to the vineyard's distinctive growing conditions. The wine is intended to express the character of this particular origin rather than simply the richness of Argentine Malbec.
Under the direction of Alejandro Sejanovich, the grapes undergo fermentation using naturally occurring yeasts. The wine is subsequently matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, with approximately 20% new oak. This maturation contributes texture, structure and subtle spice while allowing the fruit and vineyard character to remain prominent.
The wine's full body and structured palate make it an excellent partner for substantial meat dishes. Try it with grilled ribeye steak, slow-roasted beef, lamb shoulder or richly flavoured beef casseroles.
Its freshness also helps balance richer dishes, while the silky tannins work well with grilled meats and savoury flavours. Mushroom risotto, roasted aubergine and mature hard cheeses provide satisfying alternatives.
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decanting for around 30 minutes may help the wine open up and reveal more of its fruit and herbal complexity.
