On a fine, balanced palate, cherries are the predominate fruit, with griottes in the backround. The finish is long with smooth tannins mingled with more dark fruits coating your mouth. Simply delicious.

Domaine Harmand Geoffroy is situated in the Côte-d'Or region of Burgundy. Here, tiny plots of top 'terroir' exchange hands for eyewatering amounts and little wonder as it is here that many would argue the best wines in the world are made, with many selling for £thousands. The domaine consists of a mere 9 hectares with an average vine age of 50 years and the oldest 85. With this a family business since the end of the 19th century, Martine et Gérard are passing the reins to their son Philippe, though will without doubt remain a part of this top winery.

To achieve the best fruit, the vines are pruned twice during the season and towards the end of July, a 'green harvest' removes a percentage of the young grapes which also improves the quality of those left. Temperature controlled fermentation is followed by barrel ageing for between 12 and 16 months, after which the wine is bottled (at the domaine).

This is pinot noir at its best and compliments, indeed demands fine food. Filet mignon, beef Wellington, venison carpaccio and truffles are just a few dishes which are accuntuated by this Gevrey Chambertin, though any red meat dish or daube works.
