Tasting Notes
This is a medium to full-bodied red with delicious dark fruits (mostly damsons and plums) and spices with soft mellow tannins. Beautifully balanced, it has a pleasant freshness on the medium-long finish.
About
Château Coupe-Roses is situated in La Caunette, a small and beautiful village in Minervois. Named after the pink clay from which the winery was originally built, Coupe Roses is a blend of mostly grenache and carginan, with a touch of syrah. The winery is owned and run by Françoise Le Calvez and her husband Pascal Frissant, along with their son Mathias who is the winemaker behind their fabulous wines. Highly rated by wine critic Jancis Robinson, this is a winery not to be missed. Their organic vineyards are situated at a high altitude, making for cooler nights, which in turn results in the best grapes as they will ripen more slowly and develop greater flavour and acidity.
Ideal with...
We like this wine with a herby sausages and slow cooked lamb (lamb shank or Andalucian style leg). It works well with roasted garlic in the mix as well as fruity bean casseroles and tagines. All-in-all, a very versatile red wine.
