The Wolfburn distillery is based in Thurso, the most northerly town on the British mainland and until 2011 had been closed for 150 years.
It lies in the Highland county of Caithness which encompases much of the the 'Flow Country', an ancient and almost unique environment, the largest expanse of blanket peat bog in Europe, perhaps the entire world. An idylc place to make distinctive Whisky.
When the Wolfburn team went to look at the derelict site of the old distillery, they found one thing remaining. The water. The cold clear waters that fed the mash tun and stills all those years ago were still flowing just as they always had, and if the Wolf Burn was still there then they reckoned the whisky could be too.
