Tasting Notes
Light ruby colour with warm, ripe, brambly fruit, this is a modern expression of South Africa's signature grape. Medium bodied, with a lively finish.
About
Whilst now a variety in its own right, Pinotage was actually a cross between two other grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Cinsault. It was created at Stellenbosch university in the 1920's. Its characteristics are typically medium-full bodied with black fruits and a big licorice finish (which tends to divide opinion amongst wine lovers). Earthier than Rhône wines (Cinsault used to be called Hermitage in South Africa), the Cinsault delivers some of the nuances of Southern French wines whilst the Pinot Noir adds complexity and peppery, spicy undertones. With the big brands such as Kanonkop, Hamilton Russell and Groot Constantia all producing excellent single variety Pinotage, it is firmly on the South African wine map.
Made exclusively for Hallgarten Druitt in the UK, Hazy View is made from selected juice which is vinified in stainless steel tanks (with no oak ageing) then bottled for WIV group (formerly Pieroth Wine Estate).
