Tasting Notes
Baron de Badassiere Sauvignon Blanc has the clean freshness of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc though is more French in its style with great minerality and depth. A 'grown up' wine, it's easy to mistake it for a Sancerre with lemons and grapefruit on the palate and a lovely dry, juicy and refined finish.
About
One of the drier varieties of wine, Sauvignon Blanc is the grape variety used in well-known wines such as Sancerre and Pouilly Fume. It was also made famous by New Zealand wine-makers and especially when the world-famous Cloudy Bay hit the shelves.
Often Sauvignon Blanc from this far south in France is hard to get right. However, when planted at higher altitudes where the climate is cooler and with the benefit of sandy soils, which make for excellent drainage, great things are possible. Coupled, of course, with the skills of a great wine-maker.
Ideal with...
Try it with any white fish, grilled or pan-fried with a squeeze of fresh lemon (lemon really brings out the fruit in Sauvignon Blanc).
