Recently bottled from cask, this Rivesaltes is in pristine condition and is certainly amongst the best condition 1972 vintage wines available. Slightly fortified, it is drinking extremely well.

About

As well as being the 'appellation' of this wine, Rivesaltes is a town in Perpignan, close to the Pyrenees and less than 30 miles from the Spanish border. Indeed, it is so close to Spanish Catalonia, that the name is derived from Catalan and means 'High Shores'.

We have a small collection of these naturally sweet, fortified wines from different vintages, which come from a tiny number of casks. They tend to be made from the Muscat grape variety, though the Grenache varieties are also sometimes used as is 'Macabeu' (or Macabeo as it is known in its native Spain). In terms of value for money, rarity, pleasurable drinking and as a gift, these wines are unsurpassed.

Because of their high sugar content, these sweet wines from Rivesaltes age extremely well. Vintage wines like this also drink superbly and for fans of dessert wines, there is no equal. As a birthday or anniversary present, or simply a great wine to enjoy with friends, Domaine de la Fosseille 1972 comes very highly recommended.
