Vina Cobos Felino Malbec

Tasting Notes

Felino Malbec has an intense garnet colour setting the scene followed by an initial floral nose that opens up into redcurrant, raspberry, cherry scents. Tasting the wine you have to be impressed by the full range of berry flavours, along with white chocolate, vanilla that combine with a really juicy acidity. The tannins are soft but the wine retains its firm assertive style with a brilliant balance of acidity and fruit. The finish just lasts and lasts.

About

The dream was the idea of the American wine maker Paul Hobbs (who is responsible for Opus One) and two Europeans, Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud, also in the wine business. They started in 1999 and have developed from there. The grapes are hand-picked before being macerated for 15 days hence the deep rich colour. After fermentation it is aged in American and French oak, 20% of which is new oak to bring out the vanilla flavours.

This excellent juicy Vina Cobas Malbec has plenty of power and assertive flavours to cope with red meats, roasts, grills and BBQ's, it also covers spicy dishes, rich pastas as well as being a good accompaniment to cheese. It is an exceptional wine and a pleasure to enjoy.
