Bideona Mayela Rioja Alavesa offers a wonderfully different take on Rioja: youthful, juicy and fruit-driven, with no oak getting between you and the quality of the Tempranillo. Dark cherry and blackberry flavours are lifted by violet and clove, while fresh acidity and fine, chalky tannins give the wine far more character than its easy-drinking style might suggest.
Bideona calls Mayela its “Cosechero 2.0” project – a contemporary interpretation of Rioja Alavesa’s traditional grower wines. Made from vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, it is vibrant enough to enjoy casually yet has the depth, purity and mineral finish to reward more serious attention.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Pure and expressive aromas of dark cherry and blackberry are joined by fragrant violet and a subtle touch of clove.
Palate: Juicy dark fruit leads a fresh, medium-bodied palate with impressive concentration and purity. Bright acidity keeps everything lively, while finely chiselled, chalky tannins provide texture and definition without compromising the wine's approachable character.

About
Bideona was established in 2018 in Villabuena de Álava, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Rather than defining its wines principally through traditional ageing classifications, the winery places particular emphasis on vineyard origin, seeking to express the freshness, elegance and depth that distinguish Rioja Alavesa. Mayela also pays tribute to the local growers whose work helps preserve the region's historic vineyards.
Winemaking: Made from 100% Tempranillo without oak ageing, Mayela is designed to preserve the purity and personality of its fruit. Bideona deliberately avoids carbonic maceration and other techniques that could obscure vineyard character, creating a youthful Rioja that combines immediate drinkability with genuine depth and structure.
Vineyards: The Tempranillo comes from vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria in Rioja Alavesa. The area's relatively cool conditions help retain freshness, while its limestone-influenced soils contribute to the wine's characteristic fine, chalky tannins and mineral finish.

A versatile match for grilled meats, charcuterie, tapas, pasta and rice dishes, roast chicken and firm cheeses. Its fresh, unoaked style also makes it an excellent Rioja to enjoy without food.
