Loch Lomond Distillery has a particularly versatile approach to whisky production, using both traditional swan-neck pot stills and its distinctive straight-neck stills. This unusual combination gives the distillery considerable control over the character of the spirit it produces and allows it to create a remarkably broad range of whisky styles.
Fruit is central to the Loch Lomond house character, often accompanied by honey, spice and varying degrees of smoke. Under Master Blender Michael Henry, different spirit styles and carefully selected casks are used to develop individual expressions while retaining this recognisable distillery identity.
Loch Lomond 14 Year Old is matured in refill American oak casks before receiving a 12-month finish in French Limousin oak. The American oak allows the whisky's underlying fruit character to remain prominent, while the final year in Limousin oak introduces additional spice, structure and complexity.
