Lo & Behold is produced in the dramatic Piekenierskloof region of South Africa’s Western Cape, at altitudes of 650–700 m on sandstone soils. This setting provides ideal conditions for ripe yet balanced grape development, particularly for Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Carignan. The wine reflects the estate’s ambition to craft wines of purity, character and excellent value.
Vineyards: The vineyards for Lo & Behold Shiraz Mourvèdre Carignan are planted in Piekenierskloof above the Citrusdal Valley, at around 650 700 m altitude. The soils are sandstone derived, and the climate features hot, dry summer days and cool nights, helping the vines develop slow ripening flavours, good natural acidity and complex character.
Winemaking: Each variety – Shiraz, Mourvèdre and Carignan – is vinified separately. The Shiraz component undergoes ageing in French oak during malolactic fermentation for around 6 months, while the other varieties are fermented and aged in stainless steel for 6 months before blending. This approach preserves fresh fruit character while adding subtle oak derived nuance.
