Bottled at a higher strength, it amplifies the interplay of fragrant peat smoke, maritime character, bright citrus and peppery spice, while retaining the elegance and freshness that distinguish Torabhaig from heavier, more medicinal smoky malts.
Part of the distillery’s Legacy Series, Allt Gleann captures Torabhaig while its house style is still evolving towards its long-term signature whisky. The Batch Strength edition offers that character with greater intensity and texture, making it particularly appealing to experienced peat lovers looking for a characterful modern island single malt.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Fragrant peat smoke with lemon and citrus peel, sea air, earthy malt and hints of peppery spice.
Palate: Full and powerful with sweet malt, bright citrus and warming spice wrapped in assertive peat smoke, with a distinctive salty, maritime edge.
Finish: Long, warming and smoky with lingering pepper, citrus, sea salt and dry peat.
About
Torabhaig is only the second legal single malt Scotch whisky distillery to operate on the Isle of Skye. Located in a restored 19th-century farmstead on the island’s Sleat peninsula, it began distilling in 2017 with the aim of developing a distinctive style of heavily peated but refined island whisky.
Making: Allt Gleann forms part of Torabhaig’s Legacy Series and showcases the distillery’s evolving signature of what it calls “well-tempered peat”. The Batch Strength release presents that smoky spirit at greater strength, giving additional weight and intensity while preserving the citrus, maritime and aromatic qualities at the heart of the Torabhaig style.
Serving suggestion: Enjoy neat initially, then add a few drops of water to explore how the higher strength releases additional fruit, sweetness and smoke. An excellent slow-sipping dram for lovers of characterful peated whisky.
