About
Quinta do Vesúvio is one of the Douro Valley’s most historic and revered estates, now owned by Symington Family Estates. The property has a long heritage dating back to the 19th century and is known for producing both world-class Port and expressive still wines from steep schist vineyards in the Upper Douro.
Winemaking: Grapes are hand-harvested from estate vineyards and carefully sorted before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is vinified without oak ageing to preserve freshness, fruit intensity and aromatic expression, resulting in a vibrant and youthful Douro red.
Vineyards: The vineyards of Quinta do Vesúvio are located in the remote Upper Douro, with steep terraces planted on schist soils at varying altitudes. The extreme continental climate, with hot dry summers and cool nights, produces concentrated fruit with natural acidity and structure. The estate’s historic railway (“Comboio”) is a defining feature of the landscape and gives the wine its name.
