With a deep cherry red colour, Perelada 5 Finques Reserva is a very inviting looking Spanish red wine. Its aroma is equally appealing being full of red fruits, with spices, balsamic notes, rich coffee and a toasted background.
In the mouth it is full bodied, fresh, well structured and balanced. Its tannins abound but are really well integrated. Richness, depth and persistence of deep red fruits with a little dark chocolate last into the very long, smooth finish.
A blend of 7 grapes, aged in oak for 17 months, brings this wine to perfection. Hugely moreish.
We tried this wine not really knowing what to expect. It was fantastic. Fruity, full bodied, lots of depth, smooth with no hint of sharpness and clearly showing its 17 months aging in oak, with whisps of roasted coffee, chocolate and licorice.
A little different from your Spanish Rioja or Duero region reds, but with enough similarity that lovers of those drinks will really appreciate this wine too.
At 14.5% ABV, it feels like a traditional heavy Spanish red, but showing qualities you wont often find in a wine at this price. Goes well with meaty tapas, grilled meats, or even dark chocolate.
