About

Founded in 1921 by the conservative Paulo Scavino, the winery is now run by third generation Enrico Scavino together with his daughters Enrica and Elisa. With farming a way of life for the family, Enrico started his career in the winery when he was just 10 years old.

The scrupulous care of the vineyards is in no small way one of the reasons for the success of Scavino's wines. A balanced approach to sustainability and intervention ensures that the land and biodiversities are protected and preserved for future generations. This Barolo comes from the best plots of seven cru with separate vinification of each plot prior to ageing for 10 months in French oak barrels, followed by 12 months in larger barrels (foudres) before being blended.

This wine cries out for food and is outstanding with rich savoury meat and game dishes, mushrooms and truffles and aged cheeses. The tannins cut nicely through any fattiness and will even stand up to blue cheeses such as Gogonzola. Or for a real treat, try it with fresh pasta with (white) truffle oil, egg yolk and grated Parmesan.
