Tasting Notes
Medium-bodied with a backbone of dark and red fruits, finishing sweet, with fine-grained tannins. We recommend opening and decanting an hour or so before serving, when you will be greeted with lovely aromas of cassis, herbs and earthy tobacco leaves.
About
Originally called Chateau Capbern Gasqueton, Chateau Capbern was founded in 1894 by Georges Gasqueton and stayed in the family until the winery was purchased in 2012 by French insurance company Suravenir who also own Chateau Calon Segur. Things quickly turned around with new ownership and in 2014, under the guidance of Laurent Dufau (the newly appointed director at Calon Segur), the estate released its finest wine in its 120 year history.
Bordering Pauillac, Saint Estephe is the northernmost appellation of the 'big four' (Margaux, Pauillac and Saint Julien being the other three) and takes its name from the village of the same name. It's wines are known for their quality, depth and rich flavours as well as their excellent ageing potential.
