Tasting Notes
Petrara is deeper in colour than some and looks like a more mature wine and this is backed up by the palate which shows great depth, whilst retaining a fresh peach and papaya fruitiness. As you would expect, the finish is quite persistent, though it has to be said that the wine's outstanding feature is its balance, which is just perfect.
About
From Mario Basilissi, one of the five owners of Borgo Pagliantto (who bears a striking resemplance to Anthony Hopkins) to Mirco Eusebi, the tractor driver, there is a great team making up the beating heart of this very real winery. And there is nothing 'standard' about this operation. It's unusual location in a protected valley with its own microclimate are the start of what amounts to a unique set of conditions to produce superb white wines, which are fresh, yet with great depth and incredible longevity. Add careful winemaking and a serious respect for the land and you have the ingredients for outstanding wine.
Ideal with...
We loved this wine just on its own. The winery's own recommendations include cured meats, pasta dishes, fish, white meat and medium-mature cheese.
