Tasting Notes
Because it's made with Gamay, Fleurie tends to be a lighter wine and George Duboeuf's is no exception. With floral aromas and an intense crimson colour, raspberries and redcurrants follow on a fine palate with the perfect balance of juicy acidity. Sometimes described as quite feminine, the wine is best served below room temperature at around 13-14 degrees C.
About
Known as 'le roi du Beaujolais' or King of Beaujolais, Georges Duboeuf started out as a wine merchant before starting his own label. The combination of Duboeuf's experienced winemakers and rigorous crop/grape selection results in very distinctive wines throughout their portfolio.
Fleurie has 13 different “Lieu Dits" or land areas/types each producing a very distinctive type of wine. In the sloping higher parts of the appellation where the soils are poor, acidic and dry, the wines are highly aromatic and fine. Above the village of Fleurie, where the soils are deeper and contain clay, the wines are more structured with better ageing potential.
Ideal with...This lighter red wine is ideal with cold meats and charcuterie. It also works with vegetable dishes such as cauliflower cheese, roasted red peppers and garlic mushrooms.
