Tussock Jumper Shiraz delivers the generous fruit and peppery spice that make Australian Shiraz such an enduring favourite. Ripe cherry fruit comes first, followed by darker berry flavours, warming spice and a characteristic peppery edge. Smooth tannins and well-judged oak give it plenty of body without making the wine difficult or overly serious.
Made from 100% Shiraz grown in South Eastern Australia, the grapes are picked at night to preserve freshness before a long maturation using both French and American oak. It's a satisfying, crowd-pleasing red with enough richness for steak or roast beef and enough easy-going fruit to enjoy on its own.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Generous aromas of ripe cherry and dark berry fruit with black pepper, warm spice and subtle notes of oak.
Palate: Rich and fruit-forward, with juicy cherry and darker berry flavours supported by smooth tannins. Peppery spice adds classic Shiraz character, while French and American oak maturation contributes gentle richness and complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Finish: Warm and satisfying, with lingering ripe cherry, spice and a distinctive peppery character.
About
Tussock Jumper is an international wine range built around matching recognised grape varieties with the countries and regions where they have established a strong identity. Each wine carries its own distinctive animal on the label; appropriately, the Australian Shiraz is represented by a koala.
Winemaking: The grapes are harvested at night to retain freshness before fermentation with approximately six days of skin contact. After pressing, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to soften its acidity and develop a rounder texture. A lengthy maturation using a combination of American and French oak adds spice, depth and smoothness to the finished wine.
Vineyards: The 100% Shiraz comes from South Eastern Australia, broadly within the triangle formed by Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. Warm sunshine encourages the ripe, concentrated fruit associated with Australian Shiraz, while night harvesting helps preserve freshness before the grapes reach the winery.
Food Pairing
A natural choice with steak, roast beef and lamb, as well as burgers, sausages and barbecued meats. Its ripe fruit, peppery spice and generous body also work particularly well with pizza and strong, mature cheddar.
