Tasting Notes
The spectrum of flavours with this Meursault is huge. After a rich nose of lychees and grapefruit, the palate delivers soft, buttery tropical fruits with roasted hazelnuts present in the background. The finish lingers and leaves a fresh, clean minerally coating in the mouth with a hint of brioche and fresh white peach.
About
Based in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils was founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard and is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy. Now also one of the largest vineyard owners in the Cote D’or, they enjoy superb 'terroirs' and the Les Clous is no exception.
Some of the vineyards classified as village appellations are situated on a marly ground, identical to terroir of Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (only the topography and altitude are different). These vineyards are of such exceptional quality that the wine deserves to be vinified separately. This is the case for the terroir of Les Clous, with Bouchard Père et Fils owning 8.64 hectares here, which is almost half of the total area.
Ideal with...
Wines of this quality and pedigree cry out for fine food and should not be served too cold (between 12°C to 14°C). Try John Dory, pan fried with browned butter and capers. Rich, creamy pasta dishes with truffles and lighter game such as rabbit are also winners. Eggs Benedict also works well.
