Medium-bodied, the palate has great weight and texture, with succulent blackcurrant, black cherry and earthy characteristics. The juicy acidity complements the savoury, dusty tannins.
About
Overlooking the coast, the vineyard in McLaren Vale has heavy grey loam over sandstone soil with black cracking Biscay clay. The proximity to the ocean ensures cool afternoon breezes that help retain good acidity levels and aid in the development of complex flavours in the grapes.
The fruit comes from 20-year-old vines planted at the southern end of McLaren Vale, about 4km east of the coastal town of Port Willunga.
The ‘Jester’ Shiraz has plenty of ripe berry fruit and offers everything you want from a vibrant McLaren Vale Shiraz, including remarkable value.
20% of the grapes were dried using the ancient Italian Appassimento technique on racks prior to fermentation, for approximately seven to eight weeks. The remaining grapes were fermented on skins for ten days at cool temperatures to enhance pure berry fruit characteristics. The separate batches were blended and racked to old French oak for 14 months before bottling.
