Tasting Notes
Sierra Cantabria is a smoky, complex Gran Reserva Rioja, dizzyingly perfumed with truffle, vanilla, toast and notes of balsamic, the mouth packed with red fruit.
On the palate it is vigorous, fresh, silky with a good presence of mature taninns and a development of complex aromas. Red fruits perfectly integrated with touches of balsamic, coffee and oak.
Long lasting finish with hints of fruit, spice and cocoa.
About
The vineyards are well protected from the North and have a sloping landscape from Sierra Cantabria to the Ebro river, with very good South and South-West sun exposure, providing an accentuated and unique identity.
The grapes are grown using a number of biodynamoc practices and are then hand harvested in small boxes when perfectly healthy and ripe.
Further selection is made in the winery using a sorting table under the watchful eye of the wine maker, Spains famous Marcos Eguren.
The grapes are traditionally 100% destemmed with fermentation taking place at 28 to 32º C. The yeast is selected from their own vineyards.
The wine ages for 24 months, 25% in American oak Bordelaise barrels, and 75% in new oak.
