Tasting Notes
The aromas from this delicious Albarino are intense and elegant with hints of fresh herbs, green apples and grapefruit. In the mouth, it is rounded and quite full-bodied, sometimes with a light petillance that gives the wine a vivacious sense of freshness.
About
Martin Codax was founded in 1985 thanks to the idea of a group of winegrowers whose idea was to create a winery made by the people for the people. As a big family, they work together in order to ensure their wines are of the highest possible quality. With a focus on the environment, they are always looking for sustainable options and ways to reduce their carbon footprint. So much so that this is promoted as an objective to all of the winery staff, making this a high priority for all concerned.
Modern winemaking has so much to offer and, when combined with traditional farming can make for excellent wines. Grapes are harvested by hand and put into 20kg crates to avoid them being crushed and thereby decreasing their quality. Once at the winery, they are analyzed to ensure they have the essential requirements and are introduced into the de-stemmer to separate the berries from the stems. A pneumatic press produces the juice which is then fermented in stainless steel. This mix of the traditional with the new, is without doubt the way forward to achieve the best results.
Ideal with...
If you like Sauvignon Blanc and the fresh minerality of a Sancerre, you will almost certainly enjoy this Albarino. Try it on its own and with cold meats/shellfish and salads. Paella also works (especially seafood) as does fritto misto.
